Socorro, é feriado! 🆘 E agora, como é que entretemos os pequenos com urgência?
Bolachinhas de Gengibre e Laranja
Ingredientes:
Help, it’s a holiday! 🆘 Now, how do we keep the little ones entertained—and fast?
The answer is simple: get your hands dirty! Nothing beats the magic of baking some cookies (or this super-cute Easter Folar) to keep them busy and happy for hours.
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking... The time they spend having fun kneading dough is the time we’ll spend cleaning up every speck of flour that decided to explore the kitchen. ✨ Does that sound like a good plan? Sort of, right? The cleaning part isn’t anyone’s dream, but let’s be realistic: the kitchen wasn’t going to clean itself anyway! So, it’s better if the “chaos” serves to create unforgettable memories and flour-covered cheeks in those children’s minds.
Of course, you can always go for a walk outside. That’s a great idea, obviously! But think about it: when you get home, you won’t have that irresistible aroma waiting for you.
My little girl is my biggest partner in this adventure. She loves the whole process. And when it’s time to eat? Well, she takes after her mom: she can’t resist a good little cookie! Get ready, because my little big chef is going to be making a lot of appearances here.
Just look at these golden treats! And the aroma that filled the house—you can’t smell it yet, though! But when you make the cookies, you’ll see whether or not the flour scattered everywhere was worth it.
Let’s go create some sweet memories!
(Oh, by the way, I’d like to mention that this recipe comes from the book “Mommy and Me in the Kitchen” by DK Publishing. I mentioned it in a previous post, if you’d like to know more.)
Ingredients:
- 100 g extra-fine sugar (I used regular sugar)
- 125 g butter, cubed (at room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon ginger (or cinnamon, if you prefer)
- Fine zest of one orange (use the rest to make juice and drink it—don’t waste it)
- 250 g all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 medium egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons golden syrup (can be honey, maple syrup, or another—I’ve used both and it turns out great)
Preparation:
In a large bowl, rub the flour and butter together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Mix the sugar, ginger, and orange zest. In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg with your choice of golden syrup using a fork. Then mix this into the previous mixture with a wooden spoon until it forms a ball.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes (I should mention that this dough is a bit finicky and can drive you crazy, because it sticks to the counter very easily, and since kids love to touch the dough, it gets warm, which doesn’t help. But with a lot of patience, it’ll work out—be brave and persistent; it’ll be worth it).
After that time, roll out the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface and cut it with your favorite cookie cutters—this time we chose stars and hearts.
Arrange the stars slightly apart and bake them for 10 to 12 minutes (keep an eye on them because I think it took less time). Remove them, transfer them to a cooling rack, and enjoy.
